THE AUTONOMOUS METHOD IN LEARNING PROCESS

This issue has becomed raise since Lawrence Stenhouse pointed out that good teachers are necessarily autonomous in professional judgement.It means they have to be independent in educational practices,do not need to be told what they should do.However,they still have obligation to open themselves in new idea,advice or support to their own judgement.
Long time ago,instructional learning process was given from the top (Minister of Education) were implemented at the lower levels of the educational organization.This approach tend to equalize school with factories that base their operation on rational input-output.Students were considered as raw material,the teacher are as machines,curriculum are as productive process and the school leader are assumed to be director.
On the other hand,autonomous schooling has to free teachers from a system of education.This is very important because it can give them opportunity to exercise their own professional judgement.However,this doesn't mean that top down model of curriculum development is completly neglected.It is just matter of balance.This balance need to be maintained through the professionalism of teacher.
In short,this autonomous approach to schooling can result in quite profound alterations to the culture of the school and the way in which teachers,heads,high-ranking educational officers work together toward the goal of students achievement.
